Russia criticizes Israel’s strike on Iran as unlawful

Russia strongly criticized Israel’s recent attack on Iran, calling it an unprovoked and illegal act that breaks the United Nations Charter and international law. Moscow expressed serious concern, stating that the strike dangerously escalates tensions in the region. The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of deliberately undermining diplomatic efforts to address concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attack, which targeted Iran’s main nuclear facility in Natanz and key nuclear scientists, was meant to stop Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. Russia, however, argued that the timing was suspicious, as it happened just before planned nuclear talks between the United States and Iran. Moscow believes Israel’s actions were meant to disrupt these negotiations.

Russia, a close ally of Iran, has been strengthening ties with Tehran, including a recent 20-year strategic partnership agreement signed on May 21. This deal deepens their military and economic cooperation. Russian officials warned that Israel’s strike could lead to serious consequences and urged the international community not to ignore such actions.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised a strong response to Israel’s attack, which killed top military officials and scientists. The United Nations nuclear agency confirmed damage to Iran’s Natanz facility and is checking for possible radiation leaks. Russia called for all sides to avoid further escalation and focus on peaceful solutions through diplomacy.
