Video conferencing software Zoom will not support Chromebook apps from September

Under the influence of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, a large number of people turned to remote work, and the demand for Chromebooks with good ease of use and lower prices surged.

According to Android Police, video conferencing software Zoom has a dedicated Google Chrome browser extension and a Chrome app optimized for Chromebooks. But unfortunately, Zoom doesn’t want to maintain Chromebook apps anymore.

Installing and using Zoom on a Chromebook is fairly simple. But the app lacks all but the basic functions. As a result, users can join and start meetings on Chromebooks, but they won’t have the same experience as the Android or desktop versions of the Zoom app.

Chromebook users saw a warning that Zoom would not support the app in September 2022, 9to5Google reported in June. The app will continue to work, but Zoom will not provide support and updates.

The report said the reason for dropping support was that the technology used to make the app was outdated. In 2020, Google announced plans to discontinue Chrome apps across operating systems, including Chrome OS, and to stop supporting development in June 2021. In June 2022, Google stopped accepting new and legacy Chrome app submissions in the Chrome Web Store.
