It will first produce cutting-edge NAND flash memory chips starting in July this year, and may also produce application processors and applications in the future. It is reported that Samsung has five semiconductor factories in South Korea, located in Kiheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Onyang, and Cheonan.
In addition, the company operates three chip factories in Suzhou, Tianjin, and Xi’an, China, and a chip factory in Austin, Texas. The company is currently building another chip factory in Austin, Texas, which will create 2,000 cutting-edge jobs with an investment of up to $17 billion and is scheduled to start production in the second half of 2024.
In July this year, the sources reported that Samsung Electronics plans to invest nearly $200 billion in the construction of 11 chip factories in Texas over the next 20 years. It is reported that of the 11 chip factories, 2 will be located in Austin, and the remaining 9 will be located in Taylor City, with an investment of $24.5 billion and $167.6 billion respectively. Of these, the first plant will be operational in 2034, and two plants will not be operational until 2042.
