Google DeepMind has highlighted the efficiency improvements brought about by AI in its operations, particularly within its legal department.
According to Terra Terwilliger (via Fortune), the director of strategic initiatives at Google DeepMind, the Gemini AI model now handles approximately 40% to 50% of information requests within the company’s legal department. This capability significantly reduces the time spent on information retrieval, allowing legal professionals to focus on more complex tasks.
The adoption of AI at Google DeepMind reflects a strategic move towards making organizations run more smoothly. This includes internal processes and extends to how employees are trained to use AI tools, emphasizing the importance of investing time and effort into learning these systems for enhanced productivity.
While the current focus is on efficiency, there’s an underlying narrative about AI’s potential to fundamentally change job roles. However, as of now, the emphasis is on augmentation rather than replacement, making existing jobs more efficient rather than obsolete.
