Kioxia announced latest generation of embedded flash memory

Kioxia announced that its latest generation of embedded flash memory products that meet the JEDEC eMMC Ver 5.1 standard and are suitable for the consumer market have begun to sample.

Kioxia’s new eMMC 5.1 products use updated 3D Flash to improve reliability and performance and provide two capacities of 64G and 128G. The terminal products are expected to be fully launched in October this year.

According to reports, the latest BiCS 3D flash memory adopts an improved architecture to achieve more stable sequential write performance. The time from idle to auto-sleep has been reduced from the current 200ms to 2ms, a difference of approximately 100 times, further extending battery life and enabling faster performance.

As an industry-leading supplier of consumer applications/mobile storage products, Kioxia has been actively supporting e-MMC solutions since 2007 and became a UFS supplier in early 2013.

The new mid-range capacity product released this time not only provides 64/128GB capacity options but also integrates flash memory + main control in a single package.

The following are the main features of the new consumer-grade e-MMC based on the latest generation BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory:

  • Improve the architecture, reduce internal write amplification, and achieve more stable continuous write performance.
  • Pre-programmed user data for higher reliability before customer manufacturing process/send reflow.
  • The time from idle to automatic sleep is reduced by 100×6 compared with the previous generation, which helps to prolong battery life.
  • Achieve faster performance by accessing multiple dies within the device.
  • Supports the JEDEC eMMC 5.1 standards (HS400) for faster interface rates.
